An ultraviolet reactive tank glows, as fibre optic lines transmit light into a green aquarium. The bright, exposed ends of the cables are suspended like signs of life within the water, hanging like the tendrils of a plant or live electrical wires, ready to excite and sting whatever intrudes. Black lines intercept the smear of algae that suffocate the water's surface and are claustrophobic in their bid to spread and multiply. Individual stems reach down into the murk to feed, each kept alive by the artificial light source that hovers above. The work acts as a metaphor for life processes, in which water and light are the fundamental ingredients for the delicate balance, of which we are all a part.
